Internship Overview and Application
IAFS offers an internship class during the spring and summer that grants credit for international work with a variety of organizations here and abroad. The university requires that you take the course while you are working at the internship. That is, you can not do an internship in the fall and then take the internship class IAFS 4930 in the spring, unless you continue at the internship placement. The class is offered for 3 or 6 credits; 3 of these may be applied to functional area and 3 may be applied to geographic concentration; you cannot apply 6 to one requirement. There is no difference in the quantity of workload between 3 or 6 credits; the difference has to do with content of the research project. If you want geographic concentration credit, the paper must apply to your region. If you want functional area credit, you must design the research so that it covers relevant topics in that category.
The course is controlled enrollment so you may not register yourself; you must submit an application and once you are accepted to the internship program, we will enroll you for your choice of 3 or 6 credits. Keep in mind that you may only apply 6 internship credits toward your major during your entire time at CU.
We have an extensive list of possible internships, but you are not limited to this list. Please feel free to explore any and all options at your disposal.
To apply for the IAFS spring or summer internship class, email the application below to Vicki Hunter, and copy This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The deadline for applications is the end of the semester before the internship semester: for the spring internship, the last day of fall classes and for the summer internship, the last day of spring classes.
